Protein foods low in fat are not only heart-healthy, but are also easier to digest – they won’t leave you feeling weighted down (that “too full” feeling) like fried meats or high-fat choices or meats like spare ribs or salami. Choose protein source items like: lean meat, skinless poultry, fish, beans & lentils & low-fat dairy (yogurt, milk or cheese). Eating meals with good carbohydrate foods (whole grain & fiber) and protein sources can help you feel satisfied, both at the meal & after eating.

“‘My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.’”  John 4:34

For maintaining healthy skin & reduce risks of health problems, avoid the sun exposure this summer when rays are the strongest, between 10am & 4pm. UV rays can also reach us on cloudy days. Use sunscreen & lip screen with SPF 15 or higher. Put it on 30 min. before going out & every 2 hrs., as well as after swimming, sweating, or drying off. Don’t forget wide brimmed hats. See a doctor if you notice changes in skin moles (size, texture, or color) and/or patches of dry scaly, reddish, raised areas.

* “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.” James 1:17 KJV

If you plan to cook with fresh herbs rather than dried ones in summer recipes, it is advised you make your purchase close to the time you plan to use them. If you grow them, the ideal time for picking, is in the morning after the dew has dried, before hot sun comes. To store fresh herbs, use a perforated plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. They should keep a couple days.  Adding herbs is a good flavor substitute when cutting back on salt, fats & sugars. Plus they have healthy antioxidants.

* “It is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13 NIV
